Understanding and influencing consumer behavior is now central to successfully building, marketing, and selling new technologies. The team at a16z learned early on that when it came to what was considered “cool” or “fashionable,” the trends consumers wanted to emulate were mostly derived from Black culture. As these creators embraced new technology platforms, directly influencing their growth and popularity, they rarely were afforded opportunities for equity participation or ownership. As the first venture capital fund focused on Black Limited Partners, CLF partners with those creating and shaping culture to put more of their Black dollars on the cap tables of the world’s best companies.
Beyond the LPs in our fund, we’ve built a broad network of leaders in music, sports, entertainment, and business, facilitating thoughtful introductions with a16z portfolio companies that often lead to beneficial opportunities as companies scale and grow.
