More About Charles
Charles Payton is a partner on the Capital Formation and Investor Relations team where he focuses on building the firm’s limited partner relationships and raising institutional capital across all a16z strategies.
Prior to joining a16z in 2023, Charles was a director on the fundraising and investor relations team at The Riverside Company, a global middle-market private equity firm where he covered the firm’s nine fund families, including three core strategies (equity, credit and structured capital) across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
Charles received a BA in history and a certificate in markets and management from Duke University. While at Duke University, he was a member of the Duke Men’s Lacrosse Team, winning back-to-back NCAA Division I National Championships in 2013 and 2014. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, triathlons and convincing his wife to get more dogs.
