More About Katie
Katie Baynes leads marketing for Andreessen Horowitz’s Venture fund, which covers American Dynamism, Consumer, Enterprise, Fintech, and Infrastructure. She has been with the firm since 2016.
Prior to a16z, Katie was an early communications leader at Square where she had the quintessential startup experience: working nights and weekends as the company grew from a series-B startup with less than 100 employees to a multi-billion dollar publicly traded company with more than 2,000 employees globally. During her time at Square she led executive communications for Jack Dorsey and was the strategic lead on the public-facing launches for a handful of products including the company’s first full Point of Sale offering, consumer wallets, and Cash App — which she worked on from its earliest days as a hack week project. She also served on the executive team of restaurant delivery company Caviar.
Prior to Square, Katie was part of the brand and communications team at Virgin America where she and the team launched the award-winning airline in five new markets in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Katie credits her interest in the power of brand with her first job at Wegmans where, as a cashier, she learned firsthand that brand isn’t marketing — it’s the culture a company creates. She was named employee of the month at age 15 and has taken immense pride in her work ever since.
