Matt Cronin is the senior national security advisor at Andreessen Horowitz, where he works across the firm on national security legal and policy issues, helps a16z portfolio companies navigate the regulatory landscape, and liaises with government agencies and policymakers.

Prior to joining a16z, Matt served as Chief Investigative Counsel and Deputy General Counsel for the U.S. House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the U.S. and China, where he led national security investigations and developed comprehensive legislation relating to nation state competition. Earlier, he served as Director of National Cybersecurity at The White House. In that role, he created strategic cyber policies and plans for the U.S. government, including helping to develop the U.S. National Cybersecurity Strategy. Matt has also held senior roles at the U.S. Department of Justice and spent years as a veteran federal prosecutor specializing in cybercrime and transnational criminal cases. Several of his prosecutions have won national awards, including at The White House.

Matt is a Fulbright Scholar who has written articles and op eds on national security and emerging technology topics. He graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from the University of Michigan Law School, where he was one of the inaugural student attorneys of the Michigan Innocence Clinic. In that role, Matt engaged in legal work that resulted in the exoneration of three wrongfully convicted individuals.
