More About Scott

Scott Tyler is the Director of Intelligence for a16z crypto where he supports the Firm’s security and operations as well as liaising and assisting portfolio companies as they grow their security capabilities. 

Before Andreessen Horowitz, he was a Detective with Santa Clara Police Department where he focused on intelligence and technology integration into investigations and public safety. During his time at the department, he also worked as part of the Special Operations team where he was integral in helping to create and implement the security plan for Super Bowl 50. Prior to that he spent time at the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center where he developed methods to protect the California Bay Area’s Critical Infrastructure through intelligence analysis and vulnerability assessments.

Scott began his career in the Marine Corps where he worked in signals intelligence as a cryptographic intercept operator. He later went to the University of California at Berkeley where he focused on Cognitive Science. After graduating he spent time as a Naval Special Warfare Officer where he immersed himself in end-stage applications of operational intelligence.
