Michel Del Buono is an operating partner and the chief investment officer for a16z Perennial.

Michel leads the a16z Perennial team. Prior to joining a16z, Michel was the founding chief investment officer of Jordan Park, a multi-family office managing approximately $18 billion of taxable and tax-exempt global multi-asset class portfolios. Before that, Michel was a managing director and global strategist at Makena Capital Management, an endowment-style investment firm managing approximately $19 billion for endowments, foundations, family offices, pensions, and sovereign wealth funds, where he oversaw global investment strategy, portfolio construction, and risk management. Prior to Makena, he worked as the sole investment analyst at Scion Capital, the hedge fund that pioneered the use of various credit instruments prior to the global financial crisis. Michel was also an engagement manager at McKinsey & Co, where he assisted private equity clients with their due diligence and valuation work. He serves on the Investment Committee for CommonSpirit Health.

Michel graduated with a BSc in systems engineering with high honors from the University of Virginia, a MSc in engineering-economic systems and operations research from Stanford, and a MPhil in economics from Girton College, Cambridge. He earned his PhD in management science and engineering with a focus in applied economics from Stanford University where he was a DARPA fellow.
