Universities and corporate backers can take a more open approach to intellectual property — rather than locking down the resulting intellectual property. Kunle Olukotun, a professor at Stanford in the electrical engineering and computer science departments, argues that this “IP in the open” approach results in better solutions for industry and faster uptake for new technologies/ novel approaches.
