Investing in Eve

David Haber and Marc Andrusko Posted January 16, 2025

Plaintiff legal services are a cornerstone of our society — they allow individuals and entities of all kinds to seek justice when they’re wronged. It should come as no surprise, then, that Americans use these services frequently — there are roughly 66 million cases filed by plaintiffs in the U.S. every year! And with only 430,000 total law firms in the country, plus the multitude of prospective cases that require review but don’t end up being tried, lawyer bandwidth to serve customer demand is massively constrained. A plaintiff lawyer’s bandwidth is their lifeblood; plaintiff law operates on a contingency model, which means firms and solo practitioners don’t get paid unless they navigate their client to some kind of financial settlement or favorable ruling. There are no billable hours here — everything runs on results.

These are just a few of the reasons we’re so excited about Eve. Eve is the AI-native case workspace that acts as an intelligent partner for plaintiff attorneys, helping them take on 3-4x the number of cases that they were previously able to handle. Whereas older software tools that serve the legal community are either point solutions (e.g., research assistance, intake automation) or a static system of record for case management, Eve is a system of action. Eve’s customers run their practice on the system and use it throughout the entire case lifecycle, offering modules that cover:

  • Client intake: Whether it’s employment law or personal injury, law firms often employ an army of administrative staff whose job it is to sift through mountains of medical records, employment documents, and other evidence to assess the validity and potential value of an individual case. Eve streamlines this workflow and helps firms better triage cases programmatically.
  • Case work: Once an attorney has chosen to take on a case, Eve can craft detailed medical chronologies, identify case risks, and calculate potential case damages in minutes. Attorneys can also draft strategic demand letters using firm-specific styles and preferences for consistent, impactful messaging. Litigation support includes streamlined complaint drafting and rapid discovery responses, as well as optimized client communications to boost engagement and satisfaction throughout the case.
  • Firmwide operations: As a central repository for all prospect and case information, Eve is naturally well positioned to power all sorts of other downstream workflows that rely upon this data. In the future, Eve could facilitate everything from billing, to new hire training, to expert witness networking and performance management.

Eve’s platform capabilities importantly generate a flywheel effect: The more Eve is able to complete case work for attorneys and help their clients achieve better outcomes,  the more it learns from each case and can better assess prospective new cases (e.g., intake) — reinforcing the entire lifecycle.

But don’t take our word for it — Eve’s results speak for themselves. In the last eight months, Eve has partnered with more than 80 new law firms, leading to an 800% increase in its customer base within a year. Enthusiastic customers, such as Barrett and Farahany, have noted that Eve is reducing the time needed for tasks like discovery responses from 20 hours down to just 30 minutes. We heard anecdotes like this one from all of the customers with whom we spoke, which was what made us so excited to partner with Jay, Matt, and the entire team.

We’re thrilled to be leading Eve’s Series A and supporting them on their ambitious vision to supercharge plaintiff law firms. If you’re interested in trying the product or coming aboard, please reach out to dh@a16z.com or mandrusko@a16z.com.
