John Merrill is a partner and Head of Investor Relations for a16z Perennial.
Prior to joining a16z, John was a Partner at GroveStreet, a boutique specializing in building bespoke portfolios of venture capital and lower middle market buyout exposures for a group of sophisticated, global investors. Before that, he was the Co-Head of the Private Client Practice at Cambridge Associates, which serves the investment needs of large family offices. Previously, he was a Managing Director at Makena Capital where he worked with clients building endowment-style portfolios, and before that he was a Managing Director and Investment Committee member at TIFF Investment Management, where he managed the firm’s Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) program. John started his investing career at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in New York. Prior to business school, John was with PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York and completed a 2-year commitment with Teach For America in Los Angeles.
John received a BA in history with honors from Hamilton College. He earned his MBA from Yale School of Management.
