Developers spend a lot of time reading documentation. Whether it’s as high as 90% while learning new tools and frameworks, or 49% for API references, the amount of time and attention they devote to docs directly impacts developer productivity and, ultimately, the success of the tools they use.
As infrastructure investors, we’ve explored countless documentation sites. Each time we land on a page, we can immediately sense the effort and thought that has gone into crafting the experience. The layout, navigation, and presentation all reflect a clarity of purpose. Without well-formatted code examples or interactive API playgrounds, our engagement diminishes rapidly. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the documentation often defines the quality of the product itself.
However, not every company has the resources to build a Stripe-level, industry-leading docs experience. Moreover, it’s often not worthwhile for every company to spend the development resources doing it. Good documentation sites involve a huge amount of feature maintenance, version control, and integration work that doesn’t directly contribute to the product team’s goal — building a unique and exceptional product. (One could even argue that it’s better to use developers’ time to write the documentation rather than building the site infrastructure well.) Not surprisingly, then, many teams still grapple with subpar documentation or struggle with open-source frameworks like Docusaurus.
This landscape began to shift with the ascendance of Mintlify. From intuitive onboarding guides to API reference and examples, Mintlify allows customers to not only keep their brand design and style, but also easily manage and version-control the content from Github repos. Moreover, the preview function and web editor make it easy for non-developers, such as technical writers and product managers, to collaborate effectively with development teams.
Cutting-edge companies like ElevenLabs, Anthropic, Pinecone, Cursor, and Resend already have turned to Mintlify to meet the growing demands of their content infrastructure.
We are also entering a new era, where documentation not only serves human developers, but also enables and interacts with AI agents. Mintlify’s AI Chat (try it here) exemplifies this evolution. By enabling developers to access information directly from their product screen, website, or IDE, AI Chat transforms how knowledge is consumed. Since its launch, Mintlify’s AI Chat has handled more than 2 million queries — and it is just the beginning of this paradigm shift in knowledge access.
Mintlify has gone through numerous pivots and iterations until the product was polished to its current quality. This embodiment of perfectionist craftsmanship and distinctive developer insight is what initially attracted us to the team. Over the past two years, founders Han Wang and Hahnbee Lee have diligently tackled this seemingly simple, yet very complex, problem. And as we got to know them, we were impressed by the team’s tenacity and ambition to expand the product into the de facto content infrastructure platform.
Mintlify is at the forefront of a transformation where documentation is evolving to become a bridge between human knowledge and AI. It is paving the way for more intelligent and seamless interactions between technology and its users. We can’t be more excited to lead their Series A and join the board of Mintlify!
